2009/2010 SEASON

The curtain is about to rise on the 2009-2010 Panhandle Players theatrical season, and, once again, the very popular Dinner and a Show season tickets are available by calling 670-8200.

Your $36 purchase of a Dinner and a Show season ticket includes all three productions and dinner discounts ranging from 10-20 percent at seven of our area’s favorite restaurants. Season ticket holders may dine at a discount on any day during the performance weekends, whether attending the show on the same day or not.

Dinner and a Show participating restaurants who support the arts and invite you to dine with them during performance weekends are: Apalachicola Seafood Grill; Blue Parrot on St. George Island; Crooked River Grill at St. James Bay; Magnolia Grill, Tamara's Cafe,
and That Place in Apalach in Apalachicola; and The Hut in Eastpoint.

The Panhandle Players 2009-2010 Dinner and a Show season starts off at the Dixie Theatre, on the weekend of November 20-22, with “A Tuna Christmas” by Jaston Williams, Joe Sears, and Ed Howard.

Directed by Pam Vest, and starring Jeff Ilardi and Royce Rolstad, “A Tuna Christmas” is a raucously comedic return to the imaginary little town of Tuna, Texas, last visited by Panhandle Players audiences in 2008 with “Greater Tuna.”

“Seeing Stars in Dixie,” a sassy, rib-tickling Southern charmer by Ron Osborne, will be performed at the Eastpoint Firehouse, the weekend of January 29 - 31, 2010.

The grand finale in the 2009 - 2010 Dinner and a Show season will be the all-time classic Rogers and Hammerstein musical “Oklahoma,” directed by Merel Young. The colorful romance and conflict between cowmen and farmers set in territorial Oklahoma will be performed at the Dixie Theatre the weekend of April 16 -18.

PANHANDLE PLAYERS'
"GET LOST ON THE FORGOTTEN COAST"
PROMOTION

Franklin County's community theater group, Panhandle Players, has inaugurated a new promotion this season with high hopes that it will give the county's economy a boost in the off season, as well as promote Franklin County cultural events to residents of the surrounding area. They are calling the promotion, funded in part by the Franklin Tourist Development Counsel, "Get Lost At The Forgotten Coast!"

We propose to advertise the "Get Lost" promotion via various media outlets, such as local T.V., WFSU public radio, local radio, and newspapers in the surrounding counties. We are asking local hotels, inns, bed and breakfasts, and similar accommodations to participate in the promotion by offering a special incentive to theater patrons to stay overnight in their accommodations. You may choose to have theater tickets waiting for your guests at check-in, or to offer a discount on the bill upon proof that they attended the play, or some special amenity, such as a bottle of wine for after the show, or some other courtesy that your guests would appreciate.

The participating hosts will receive recognition in the playbill of each production. The 2009 - 2010 season is scheduled from November to April, typically the lower tourist months for this area. Patrons will be asked to request the "Get Lost" incentive provided by the host when they make reservations. We are hoping that this will be a boost to Franklin County tourism in addition to publicizing our productions.

Participating hosts at bed and breakfast inns, hotels, motels, and a golf resort have agreed to partner with Panhandle Players to provide special incentives to theater patrons who book at least one room night in Franklin County and attend a Panhandle Players' performance. Among the participating hosts are: The Water Street Hotel and Marina and The Coombs House Inn, in Apalachicola; the Sportsman's Lodge in Eastpoint; the St. James Bay Condominiums and Golf Resort, in St. James; and The Old Carrabelle Hotel and The Moorings at Carrabelle Condominiums and Marina, in Carrabelle.

Incentives provided by the participating hosts include: a 10% discount on lodging and an after-the-show bottle of wine, a free nights lodging, discounts on a round of golf, and free theater tickets. Panhandle Players' patrons who wish to participate in "Get Lost At The Forgotten Coast" should mention this when they make their reservations.
